Tiny Cathedrals
Heaven is everywhere we don't think to look.
Tiny Cathedrals
Ash Kilback
Heaven is everywhere
we don’t think to look.
Have you ever stopped
to kneel next to the white
steeple of the mushroom
on a thick carpet of green
moss?
I am certain God was clever
and built tiny cathedrals
underneath their whimsical
caps.
This fun poem came to life during April’s writing challenge with a prompt from Ellen Rowland on writing a poem exploring the idea of heaven. For me, nature feels like most resonant experience of church for me. In all the time I’ve spend getting lost & wandering out into the wild landscapes around me, I’ve come to see all forms of creation that meet me on the path, like the mushroom, as a tiny cathedral.

I've long called nature my "church". To me it resonates much closer than a building. ❤️ Love your poem.
This took me back to re-reading, God's Grandeur, by Gerard Manley Hopkins. He had a way with words! Thank you.
